Starting your Property Search
You probably have a vision in your mind of your perfect home in the sun and you’ve worked out that the Aude/Ariège area is attractive in terms of its position: ideally slotted amidst the stunning town of Toulouse, the Mediterranean sea and the Pyrenees.
That’s a good start.
But, even within this comparatively small area of France, the countryside can change dramatically within a few kilometres. We have vineyards around Limoux and Carcassonne and arable and livestock farming towards Mirepoix and further into the Ariège. There are larger towns such as Carcassonne and Foix, smaller market towns like Limoux and Mirepoix and large villages with plenty of amenities like Montréal and Fanjeaux.
That’s why your first visit shouldn’t be to look for your house, but to explore the towns and countryside of this region to see where you’d like to be. You can always decorate or renovate your house but you can’t move it somewhere else!
We realize you may be very busy people but weekend visits can be tiring and stressful. If at all possible, it’s better to rent somewhere down here for at least two weeks (longer if you can afford the time) in order to give yourselves time to relax and enjoy the pace of life and surroundings and thus make considered judgments on what is, after all, a very big decision.
Once you’ve narrowed down your area, it’s time to start looking for property in that area.
